A Legacy of Craftsmanship, Built for the Future: Walter Adams Framing Expands Its Production Studio

For nearly 50 years, Walter Adams Framing has earned the trust of San Francisco’s artists, collectors, interior designers, architects, and homeowners through an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship. As a proud San Francisco Legacy Business, we’ve always believed that growth should never come at the expense of quality. That’s why our newest investment isn’t another showroom—it’s a purpose-built production studio designed to elevate the art of custom framing in San Francisco.

Behind every beautifully framed piece is a remarkable amount of craftsmanship. Every mat must be precisely designed, every frame carefully joined and finished, every material thoughtfully selected, and every detail inspected before artwork returns to its owner. That process has always defined Walter Adams Framing, and it remains the foundation of everything we do today.

Our new production studio represents the next chapter in that story.

Expanding With A New Custom Framing Production Studio

Walter Adams Framing and our sister company, Capricorn Framing, now share a dedicated production center designed to support the growing demand for museum-quality framingfine art framingconservation framing, and large-scale designer and commercial projects. Clients will continue to enjoy the unique experience each company has cultivated over the years, while behind the scenes our experienced craftspeople work together in a collaborative production environment focused entirely on quality.

The new studio includes approximately 1,000 square feet of dedicated production space, complemented by an additional 2,500 square feet devoted to material storage, frame joining, and specialty fabrication. Together, the nearly 3,500-square-foot production facility gives our team the space to work more efficiently while maintaining the meticulous attention to detail that has become synonymous with the Walter Adams name.

Designed with functionality in mind, the studio features 12-foot ceilings, expansive production tables, a state-of-the-art computerized mat cutter, professional multi-material cutters, and dedicated work areas that allow us to safely handle oversized artwork throughout every stage of production. Whether we’re framing a single family heirloom or preparing dozens of pieces for a luxury residence, gallery, or corporate installation, every project benefits from an environment built specifically for precision.

Supporting San Francisco’s Interior Design Community

For our interior designers, architects, and trade partners, this investment creates meaningful advantages.

Today’s design projects often involve larger artwork, statement mirrors, multi-piece gallery walls, and coordinated framing packages that require exceptional consistency from beginning to end. The expanded production studio allows us to manage these complex projects more effectively while maintaining the personalized collaboration designers have come to expect. Multiple projects can move through production simultaneously without compromising quality, ensuring every finished piece reflects the original design vision.

The benefits extend to every client who entrusts us with their artwork.

Oversized paintings remain safely positioned throughout production rather than being moved repeatedly. Fine art, photography, textiles, and collectibles each receive the specialized handling they require. Larger work surfaces allow our team to carefully evaluate proportion, balance, and presentation before final assembly. Every improvement was designed with one objective in mind: creating better custom framing.

Over the past several years, we’ve seen increasing demand for larger artwork, more sophisticated framing solutions, and archival framing that protects valuable pieces for generations. Interior designers are specifying custom framing as an integral part of residential and commercial design, while homeowners continue investing in original artwork, family heirlooms, and meaningful collections that deserve thoughtful presentation.

Rather than limiting the types of projects we could accept—or outsourcing specialized work—we chose to invest in ourselves.

Our expanded production studio allows us to frame nearly any size or type of artwork that can safely enter our facility. From museum-quality presentation for fine art to oversized canvases, mirrors, shadowboxes, textile displays, memorabilia, and commercial art installations, our capabilities have grown without changing the way we approach each individual project.

That’s because craftsmanship has never been measured by speed.

Every frame is still individually built by experienced craftspeople. Every design consultation still begins with understanding the artwork and the client’s vision. Every material is selected for both beauty and longevity. Technology enhances our precision, but it never replaces the judgment, experience, and artistry that define exceptional custom framing.

Strengthening the Walter Adams Framing Team

The expanded studio also strengthens our team.

By bringing production together under one roof, experienced framers can collaborate more closely, share techniques, solve complex framing challenges, and continue refining their craft. Better workflow improves quality control, reduces unnecessary handling of artwork, and gives every member of our team the opportunity to focus on what matters most—creating beautiful work.

As a locally owned San Francisco business, we’re proud to continue investing in the city that has supported us for decades.

At a time when so many products are mass-produced and disposable, we’ve found the opposite to be true in custom framing. More people are choosing original artwork over reproductions. More families are preserving heirlooms. More designers recognize that framing is an essential part of exceptional interior design rather than an afterthought.

That continued appreciation for handcrafted work gives us tremendous optimism about the future of custom framing in San Francisco.

What we’re most proud of isn’t the size of our new production studio.

We’re proud that we’ve transformed our long-term vision into a workshop capable of producing museum-quality custom framing for virtually any project while preserving the personal service, craftsmanship, and attention to detail that have defined Walter Adams Framing for nearly half a century.

Our new production studio isn’t simply an investment in space.

It’s an investment in preserving the tradition of exceptional custom framing in San Francisco for the next generation of collectors, designers, artists, and homeowners.
